Custom Car Portraits

Greetings all,

A friend of mine, who is a member of the Ferrari Club, has taken up photography as a retirement interest and is working on some of his favourite subjects - our cars. I think it might be a great idea as a Christmas gift - perhaps to yourself!

I understand that rates range from $100 -$300 depending on travel distance and the number of select images. Rolly's preferred method is to provide a CD following the shoot containing select, finished images. This allows for unlimited printing with no further charge.

Europa Rally with Ferrari Club

The date for the Europa Rally has been revised to September 27th.

Please know that this is a fun event, a visual treasure hunt combined with an enjoyable 2 hour (hopefully!) drive. I have driven this year’s route and it is indeed beautiful.

All directions are landmark based so there is no need for any fancy equipment, not even an odometer. The third place finisher from the Ferrari Club last year was a father and his eight year old daughter in their lovely Dino. All that is needed to participate is a sense of fun, a sense of humour and a love of Alfas and Ferraris. Last year’s event was a great success – a good time was had by all who participated.

2009 Summer Wine Tour

The summer wine tour is fast upon us. The following itinerary is designed to provide a combination of motoring, wine tasting, dining and site seeing.

Any suggestions or proposed additions to the itinerary is appreciated.
We would like to get an idea of participant numbers by Sunday, July 12th to make sure that all venues can accommodate us and to arrange for private tours, where possible.

ITINERARY

10:30-11:00 a.m. Meet at the Hamilton Museum of Steam and Technology
Museum visit and partake of the special event where hobbyists will be displaying and operating rideable models of scaled trains. The bigger the boys...

12:00 p.m. Brunch at Eastdell Estates Winery (www.eastdell.com)
Buffet brunch, $25 per person.

1:30 p.m. Thirty Bench Estate Winery (www.thirtybench.com)
Wine tasting at one of Beamsville Bench’s best, small scale, estate winery specializing in small lot, crafted wine production. Depending on group
numbers, a flighted tasting may be arranged.

2:30-4:30 p.m. Drive to and tour Jordan Station
A few stops along the way, including Cave Springs Outlet and an antique shop as we tour this part of Southern Ontario. A visit to Southbrook Winery is an option, depending on what everyone would like to do.

4:30/5:00 p.m. Depart for home
Snack stop at Hutch’s on the Beach Strip, for those interested, for famous french fries and other summery, beachy, greasy goodies.

Alfa Dave's Twin Spark Project

Twinspark running on Motorcycle Throttle Bodies

I got this idea when I was looking at a post a while back from a post on the Alfabb.com
I found size and other info on a Mega Squirt site.
I bought a set of GSRX 750 throttle bodies from a 2002 Suzuki .
I got them from ebay for $75.00
I used the Alfa intake, Injectors and fuel rail so the bodies do only air .

This is what I started with.
The bodies come apart so I made spacers out of tube and put then back together with threaded rod to match the Alfa spacing.

And this is what I ended up with.
The rubber boots are standard Alfa parts.
You can see the first 3 Injector holes are plugged with bolts and the right one has a port for my brake booster.
The gold thing at the right is the TS Hammering Damper.
You can also see the throttle position sensor (black thing at the right).


Here you can see the map sensor at the bottom left and the air temp sensor in the center.

This part converts the push of the car's linkage to the pull of the throttle bodies.
This took more time than any other part.
I used the TS plenum support and got an adjustable throttle rod and a ball stud from Max at Alfaholics Classic Alfa Romeo cars
The cable is held by a nut and bolt from a spica car.
You can't see it here but the arm rides on a nylon bushing.

Pinarello Tech Session - April 18th, 2009

Another great tech session hosted by Pino, assisted by Marco and a great way to kick off the season.

Prior to getting going, everyone assembled at the back of Pino's shop and admired those cars that had been driven to the event. With the early start to the driving season, it was noted that this was likely the largest turnout to the tech session event yet.

Jim Hyatt of the Ferrari Club was kind enough to take a photo of our group and invited us to the Ferrari Club's charitable run - details to follow.

Pino's tech session took the group through many of the typical maintenance issues of our cars - special emphasis was put on the various fluids and their characteristics. We had a look at a Spica pump, an engine block and the underside of a spider that was on the hoist.

With the arrival of pizza, many hung around to further socialize and to further partake in Pino's wisdom and hospitality.

Our next event is the first cruise night of the season on May 7th, 7:00 p.m. at La Paloma.

Proposed New Club Hat Design

It's time to make new hats for the Club. Here's a proposed design for you to comment on below or, you can vote on the right hand side of the page.

The cap is "trucker style" with a red front panel and white mesh back. Mesh for ventilation since we drive our cars in summer.

The ARCC logo is embroidered on the front panel. The embroidered Quadrifoglio logo is on the back above the closure. Alternatively, the Quad logo could be placed on the side of the hat, above the text.

The text running along the bottom edge of the hat would be embroidered in red Alfa font. The text could read: "Toronto Chapter" as some have requested, or "alfaclub.ca", or both.

Alfa Dave's Fuel Injection Project Plus

I am in the process of fuel injecting the Twin Spark motor I put in my spider a few years back.

I am using throttle bodies from a motorcycle and an aftermarket computer to run it. I am reusing a lot of the Alfa parts that I got with the motor as it was injected from the factory. I ran the motor on Weber carbs to start because the Alfa EFI system would not fit under the hood of a spider.

Greetings Fellow Alfisti,

Welcome to the Alfa Romeo Club of Canada-Toronto Chapter Blog. This is our online clubhouse: a place to share stories, information, photos, opinions and to generally provide a Forum. Forum, there's another great Italian invention.

Think of our Blog as another vehicle to engage our vehicles. Hopefully easier to maintain and with no 2nd gear grind! Our cars may be mechanical but our club is now also electronic.

In this regard, think of me as your Blog mechanic, for now anyway. No appointments, no charge, clean fingernails and with a story or photo to share now and again.
